ABOUT THE AUTHOR


Theo W. Braddy is a nationally respected disability rights leader, speaker, and advocate. At 15 years old, a life-changing accident left him paralyzed — but it never limited his future.

For over 40 years, Theo has been at the forefront of the independent living movement, serving as the long-time CEO of the Center for Independent Living of Central Pennsylvania, and now as the Executive Director of the National Council on Independent Living (NCIL).

In 2022, President Joe Biden appointed him to the National Council on Disability, where he advises the White House and Congress on national disability policy.

Theo has been honored by Penn State, featured in national media, and recognized as one of the most influential disability civil rights voices of his generation.

He lives by a simple truth:
“We rise higher when we rise together.”
